HUONDER, ANTON. - Jesuit, missiologist, b. at Chur (Grisons) on 25 Dec. 1858, d. at Bonn on 23 Aug. 1926. A sought-after preacher of the spiritual exercises, especially to priests, and a polished writer, from 1889 he was a collaborator and, on two occasions, director (1902-12; 1916-18) of the periodical Die katholischen Missionen, where with numerous articles and studies devoted to the history and the most important missionary problems, he was able to exert a very effective and, in certain respects, pioneering influence, for example, in the question of the indigenous clergy and in the development of missionary unions at home.

As a writer of ascetical works he acquired considerable merit with the series of meditations: Zu Füssen des Meisters (4 vols., ibid. 1913-30; Italian trans. of vols.
