JESBAAM. - 1. The first of David's three mighty men; in a single feat of arms he killed 300 (Paralipomeni) or 800 (Samuele) enemies. He was a native of Beth-haccherem (Hirbert Kammüneh, between Nablus and Jerusalem; cf. II Sam. 23:8; I Par. 11:11); he was the head of the first division of David's army (I Par. 27:2).

The Hebrew Jâšobh'âm is to be corrected, in accordance with the best Greek reading, to Jâšba'al "man of Baal," also vocalized Jâšbêseth "man of ignominy" (Iesâbâk, Iesâbâk I Par. 11:11; Iesâbâk, Iesâbâk II Sam. 23:8; Sâbâk I Par. 27:2).

2. A Benjaminite (Hebrew Jâšobh'âm; Septuagint Iesâbâk) of the Levitical family of Korah, among the warriors who joined David at Ziklag (I Par. 12:7).
