INFESSURA, STEFANO. - Chronicler, born in Rome to a family of the lesser nobility living in the Trevi district in the first half of the fifteenth century; died there shortly before 1500. He was a distinguished jurist, praetor at Orte, lecturer in civil law at the University of Rome, and senate scribe. He wrote a Diario della città di Roma, in which the feeling for the liberties of the Comune is most vivid, filling Porcari (v.). He associated with Pomponio Leto, although in the Diario he does not appear as a humanist. He was a resolute partisan of the Colonna, and therefore opposed to Sisto IV, against whom he did not spare accusations. Although he lacks impartiality and his account is fragmentary, his work is valuable as a historical source.
