INFESSURA, STEFANO. — Chronicler, born in Rome to a family of minor nobility residing in the Trevi district in the first half of the 15th century; died there shortly before 1500. He was a distinguished jurist, praetor at Orte, lecturer in civil law at the University of Rome, and a notary. He wrote a *Diary of the City of Rome*, in which the sentiment for the liberties of the Commune is vividly expressed, filling him with admiration for Stefano Porcari (q.v.). He associated with Pomponio Leto, though in the *Diary* he does not appear as a humanist. He was a staunch partisan of the Colonna family and thus opposed to Sixtus IV, whom he spared no accusations. Despite his lack of impartiality and the fragmentary nature of his account, his work remains valuable as a historical source.
