INFESSURA, STEFANO. - Chronicler, born in Rome to a family of the minor nobility living in the Trevi district in the first half of the 15th century; died there shortly before 1500. He was a jurist of merit, praetor at Orte, lecturer in civil law at the University of Rome, and scribasenato. He wrote a Diario della città di Roma, in which the feeling for the liberties of the Commune is very much alive, filling him with admiration for Stefano Porcari (v.). He drew close to Pomponio Leto, although in the Diario he does not show himself to be a humanist. He was a decided partisan of the Colonna, and therefore hostile to Sixtus IV, whom he did not spare from accusations. Although he sins against impartiality and his account is fragmentary, his work is precious as a historical source.
