LOË, PAUL von. - In baptism Ludwig. Dominican historian, b. 31 March 1866 at Wissen Castle (Rhineland), d. 19 June 1919 at Düsseldorf.

After his gymnasium studies at Feldkirch and Vechta and his philosophical and theological studies at Eichstätt and Münster, he took the Dominican habit at Venlo on 15 Nov. 1887, continuing his studies at Rijckholt (where he was ordained priest in 1891) and Louvain (where he was a lecturer in 1892). A lecturer and superior at Venlo and Düsseldorf, where he was regent of the Studium generale (1912-17), he acquired particular merit for the founding of the Thomasbibliothek at Düsseldorf (1891, transferred to Walberberg in 1934).

He founded the series Quellen und Forschungen zur Geschichte des Dominikanerordens in Deutschland. He wrote, among other things: De vita et scriptis Alberti Magni (in Anal. Boll., 19 [1900], pp. 257-84; 20 [1901], pp. 273-316; 21 [1902], pp. 316-317), Statistisches über die Ordensprovinz Teutonia (Quellen u. Forschungen, 1 [Leipzig 1907]), Statistisches über die Ordensprovinz Saxonia (ibid., 4 [ibid. 1910]), and ed. I. Meyer, Liber de viris illustribus O.P. (ibid., 12 [ibid. 1918]).
