MANETTI, ANTONIO di TUCCIO. - Mathematician, architect, Dante scholar, b. in Florence on 16 July 1423, d. there on 24 May 1497. He was a friend of the greatest humanists of his time.

M. Ficino dedicated to him the version of the De monarchia, G. Benivieni the translation of the Libro della semplicità della vita cristiana by G. Savonarola, C. Landino wished to make known his opinions on the Commedia. M. also took part in the political life of the Florentine Republic, was a researcher and glossator of codices, the writer of a Vita di Filippo ser Brunellesco, and a witty and refined narrator of the Novella del grasso legnaiuolo. On his death Benivieni reported in a Dialogo, which he imagined to be drawn from some manuscript notes of M., his friend's ideas concerning the site and the shape of Dante's Inferno.
