MARIA CROCIFISSA of Jesus - Portrait of Mother M. C. of J., first superior of the enclosed Passionists - Tarquinia, monastery of the Passionists.

MARIA CRUCIFIED OF JESUS. - First superior of the Passionists, in the world Faustina Costantini, b. 18 Aug. 1713 at Corneto (today Tarquinia), d. there 15 Nov. 1787. Having entered at the age of 20 among the Benedictines of the monastery of St. Lucia in Tarquinia, she passed in 1771, by order of Clement XIV, to the monastery of the Passionists, founded by St. Paul of the Cross in the same city, as first superior.

She was a religious of eminent virtues, distinguished in devotion to Jesus Crucified and in the most austere penances, performed with the spirit of a victim expiating for the sins of men. She had high mystical gifts. From 1738 she was under
