In its most flourishing period it had as many as 64 priories dependent on it. It suffered in 1472 and even more from the Huguenots in the second half of the 16th century; in that period it also declined because it was given in commendam; in 1648 it passed to the Congregation of the Maurists. In 1789 the 17th-century abbey church was destroyed by the revolution; the monastic buildings are today converted into schools and private dwellings.
