MOLESME. - An ancient abbey in the department of Côte d'Or in France, formerly in the diocese of Langres and now in that of Digione, founded in 1075 by St. Roberto, founder of the Cistercians.

It suffered in 1472 and still more at the hands of the Huguenots in the second half of the 16th century; in that period it also declined because it was granted in commendam; in 1648 it passed to the Congregation of the Maurists.
