ALBERICO (AUBRY), Blessed. — Second Abbot of Cîteaux. Nothing is known of his birth, his intellectual and moral formation before he entered the monastery. He first appears at the Benedictine abbey of Molesme as prior. After several attempts at reform to observe the Rule of St Benedict in all its original purity and austerity, A. moved together with Abbot St Robert and some more zealous monks to Cîteaux near Dijon, where he played a principal part in the foundation of the monastery, which became the cradle of the Cistercian Order.
