VERONICA NEGRONI, Blessed. - Augustinian mystic, born in Binasco (Milan) in 1445, died on 13 January 1497 in the convent of S. Marta in Milan, where she had entered at the age of 22 and spent her entire life.
From childhood she was humble and simple; later she became a begging nun and subjected herself to harsh privations and the discipline, without regard for her poor health. She frequently experienced visions: following one of these she went to Rome to Pope Alexander VI, who received her kindly. She had ecstasies, theological revelations, the gift of reading others' thoughts and of prophecy. Leo X granted permission for her cult at the monastery of S. Marta on 15 December 1517. Feast day: 13 January.
