NEGRONI, VERONICA, blessed. - Augustinian mystic, born at Binasco (Milan) in 1445, died on 13 Jan. 1497 in the convent of S. Marta in Milan, which she had entered at the age of twenty-two and where she spent her entire life.
Humble and simple from childhood, she later became a questing nun and subjected herself to harsh privations and to the hairshirt, without regard for her painful state of health. She had very frequent visions: following one of these she went to Rome to Pope Alexander VI, who received her kindly. She experienced ecstasies, theological revelations, the gift of penetrating others' thoughts, and prophecy. Leo X granted her cult to the monastery of S. Marta on 15 Dec. 1517. Feast day, 13 Jan.
