PÉREZ di VALENZA, JAIME. — Augustinian theologian, b. ca. 1408, d. 30 Aug. 1490. A religious in Valencia (1436), he taught theology at its university from 1459. Having become titular bishop of Cristopoli, he administered on behalf of Rodrigo Borgia the dioceses of Valencia and Cartagena from 1468 until his death, which occurred in a reputation for holiness. In 1550 St. Thomas of Villanova erected a more worthy tomb for him, and in 1610 the Blessed Ribera initiated the process of beatification.
He wrote: *In 150 psalmos expositio*; *In Canticum cantorum*; *In cantica omnia ferialia*; *Super Magnificat*; *Tract. contra Iudaeos*; and others, all printed by the author and subsequently reprinted more than thirty times (the last edition, in 2 vols. [Madrid 1749]), highly esteemed for their clarity, richness of content, and unction.
