PERMOSER, BALTIASAR. – German sculptor, born in Kammer, near Otting in the Chiemgau, in August 1651; died in Dresden on 20 February 1732.
He was in Italy in 1675, where in Florence he was known as Baldassarre Fiammingo, Belmosel, or Delmosel. In addition to Florence, he was probably active in other Italian cities as well, to which he also went after becoming, in 1589, court sculptor to Giovanni Giorgio III of Saxony. In Florence he left several sculptures on the façade of S. Gaetano (c. 1680), the Assumption of S. Andrea Corsini (1683) at the Carmine, and a relief Crucifix in S. Elisabetta delle Convertite.
His many works preserved in Germany and attributed to him reveal him to have been an important artist, especially with regard to the development of the Italian Baroque in that country.
