POCCETTI, BERNARDINO BARBATELLI, detto il. - Painter, also called Bernardino delle Facciate, delle Muse e delle Grottesche, born in Firenze in 1548, died there on 9 Nov. 1612.
In 1580 and 1585 he worked in Firenze in the great cloister of S. Maria Novella; between 1591 and 1606 he painted in Firenze at the Certosa of Galluzzo and executed frescoes in S. Spirito, S. Trinita, the Spedale degli Innocenti (1610), the convent of S. Apollonia, etc. With the frescoes of the Certosa, depicting Stories of St. Bruno; the lunettes of the Museo di S. Marco; the Last Supper in the Galleria di Belle Arti in Siena, etc., he is directly linked to the Florentine tradition from Domenico Ghirlandaio to Andrea del Sarto. The same is true of the frescoes in the Villa Artimino near Signa, or in « La Loggia », with the legend of Amore and Pische, in the Villa Torrigiani at S. Martino alla Palma. The oil self-portrait of P. is in the Galleria Pitti in Firenze.
