PODGORITZA. — This is ancient “Dioclea” in eastern Illyricum, where in 1873 a large, translucent white glass dish with raised edges was discovered, on which scenes drawn from the Old and New Testaments had been engraved, accompanied by crude explanatory inscriptions.
At the center is the Sacrifice of Abraham, and around it Adam and Eve (beside them is written “Abram et Evam”); the Resurrection of Lazarus (inscr. Dominus Lazarum vetuscita); the miracle of the spring (inscr. Petrus virga perquosset fontes ciberunt quorere [per curere]); Daniel among the lions (inscr. Daniel de loco leonis); the Three Children in the furnace (inscr. Tvis pueri de egne cami[ni]); Susanna (inscr. Susanna de falso crimine); Jonah (Diuna de ventre queti liberatus est).
