QUOTIDIANO, IL. - Political and information newspaper, organ of Azione Cattolica Italiana. It is published in Rome and distributed in various regional editions in central and southern Italy and in Sicily.
The Q. was introduced by mons. Gilla Gremigni, then «ad interim» president of the A.C.I., on 11 June 1944. Its editorship was assumed by Igino Giordani, who held it uninterruptedly until 20 Apr. 1946, when he was replaced by prof. Federico Alessandrini. The Q. continues the tradition of the Roman Catholic political newspaper, previously upheld by L'Avvenire d'Italia (Roman edition) and subsequently by L'Avvenire. Indeed, on 1 Sept. 1933 L'Avvenire d'Italia, the Catholic daily of Bologna directed by Raimondo Manzini, began publishing in Rome the Roman and southern Italian editions, continuing them until 4 Apr. 1938. On 5 Apr. L'Avvenire succeeded L'Avvenire d'Italia in Rome, under the editorship of Imolo Marconi (Novus). Its last issue appeared on 4 June 1944, the day of the liberation of Rome.
