WILHELM SCHWARZ. - Publicist, b. 20 Apr. 1855 at Nordkirchen (Westphalia), d. 20 Dec. 1923 at Münster.
Ordained priest in 1878, he resided from 1883 to 1887 in Rome as chaplain at the German Cemetery (Campo Santo Teutonico). In 1888 he moved to Berlin, where he became editor of the Catholic periodical Germania and founded its literary supplement; in 1906 he transferred to Münster as canon of the cathedral and director of the Society for the History and Study of the Antiquities of Westphalia. Among his publications are works on Emperor Maximilian (Briefe und Akten zur Geschichte Maximilians I., 2 vols., 1889-1891) and on the nuncio Gropper (Die Nuntiatur-Korrespondenz Kaspar Groppers, 1898).
