Schwarz, Wilhelm

SCHWARZ, WILHELM. - Publicist, b. 20 April 1852 at Nordkirchen (Westphalia), d. 20 December 1923 at Münster.

A priest in 1878, he resided from 1883 to 1887 in Rome as chaplain at the Teutonic Cemetery. Having moved in 1888 to Berlin, he became there editor of the Catholic periodical Germania and founded its literary supplement; in 1906 he moved to Münster, as canon of the Cathedral and director of the Society for the History and Study of Westphalian Antiquity. Among his publications are remembered those on Emperor Maximilian (Briefe und Akten zur Geschichte Maximilians I., 2 vols., 1889-1891) and on the nuncio Gropper (Die Nuntiatur-Korrespondenz Kaspar Groppers, 1898).
