SCHWARZ, WILHELM. – Publicist, born 20 April 1852 in Nordkirchen (Westphalia), died 20 December 1923 in Münster.
Ordained a priest in 1878, he resided in Rome from 1883 to 1887 as chaplain at the Campo Santo Teutonico. Having moved to Berlin in 1888, he became editor there of the Catholic periodical Germania and founded its literary supplement; in 1906 he moved to Münster, where he was a canon of the cathedral and director of the Society for the History and Study of the Antiquities of Westphalia. Among his publications are those on Emperor Maximilian (Briefe und Akten zur Geschichte Maximilians I., 2 vols., 1889–1891) and on the nuncio Gropper (Die Nuntiatur-Korrespondenz Kaspar Groppers, 1898).
