SEBASTIAN OF THE APPARITION, Blessed. - Of the Friars Minor, b. in the province of Galicia in 1502, d. at Puebla de los Angeles (Mexico) on 25 Feb. 1600.

A household servant and farmer at Salamanca, he emigrated to Mexico, where he took up farming again, opening roads and transporting merchandise, managing to accumulate considerable wealth, with which he provided for the needy whom he encountered. Left a widower for the second time, at the age of 70, he ceded all his properties to the convent of the Poor Clares and the following year entered the Observant Friars Minor of Puebla de los Angeles as a lay brother, spending the remaining 26 years of his life in the humble office of questor.

The innocence of his life, the heroism of his virtues accompanied also by particular mystical gifts, and the miracles worked before and especially after his death brought him to the honors of the altars. He was beatified by Pius VI in 1787. Feast on 25 Feb.
