SIGNORIELLO, NUNZIO. – Neo-Scholastic philosopher, born in Naples in 1831, died there on 11 October 1889. SAN SEVERO (v.), and, like him, a professor at the Archiepiscopal Lyceum of Naples, he followed his approach, cooperating effectively in the renewal of Scholastic philosophy.
He completed Sanseverino’s work Philosophia christiana cum antiqua et nova comparata, publishing vol. III, and produced an abridgment of it in two volumes, noteworthy for the soundness of its doctrine, the density of its content, and the clarity of its exposition. His name, however, is above all associated with the Lexicon peripateticum philosophico-theologicum (Naples 1854), composed with great diligence and reliable expertise, which went through numerous editions, including recent ones (Rome 1931).
