“SUSCIPE, DOMINE, UNIVERSAM MEAM LIBERTATEM.” — Prayer inserted among the “Orationes pro opportunitate dicendae” of the Roman Breviary under the title *Oblatio sui*, granted an indulgence of 300 days and the monthly plenary indulgence (Preces et pia opera, Rome 1952, no. 52, p. 21).
It is taken from the vernacular translation of the Spiritual Exercises (v.) of St Ignatius (no. 234), approved by Paul III on 31 July 1548. It is the colloquy with which the first point of the contemplation for attaining divine love concludes, and expresses the absolute, unconditional surrender that the exercitant must achieve in order to direct his love, as the fruit of the spiritual exercises. At the end of the second week a total emptiness had been produced by the abandonment of self-love, self-will and self-interest (no. 189); this emptiness is now filled with the love of God. In response to the love shown by God, it is the requital of the friendship established with God, which presupposes the will to use divine gifts solely according to His good pleasure.
