of indulgence and the monthly plenary indulgence (Preces et pia opera, Rome 1952, n. 52, p. 21).
It is taken from the Vulgate translation of the Spiritual Exercises (v.) of St. Ignatius (n. 234), approved by Paul III on 31 July 1548. It is the colloquy with which the first point of the contemplation to attain divine love ends, and it expresses the absolute, unconditional surrender that the exercitant must carry out in order to order his love, as the result of the spiritual exercises. At the end of the second week the total void had been produced by emerging « from one's own love, desire and interest » (n. 189); now this void is filled with the love of God. As a response to the love manifested by God, it is the requital of the friendship established with God, which presupposes the will to make use of divine gifts solely according to his good pleasure.
