TALIJA, URBANO. - Franciscan theologian, b. at Lopud, d. at Ragusa in Dalmatia in 1943. Provincial, professor and rector of the Franciscan theological study in Ragusa for 45 years, member of the Croatian theological academy, the Society for philosophical and theological studies, etc.
He was a contributor to various Croatian, German, and Italian journals. His scholarly output comprises about 450 writings; among his printed works, the following deserve mention: *Socijalizam* (Socialism; Ragusa 1905); *Errores scientifici et historici*; *Un knjigama nadahnutim* (On inspired books); *Citationes tacitae* (Zagreb 1909); *Religijozna skega i kršć. apologetika* (Religious scepticism and Christian apologetics, Sarajevo 1913); *Neumrloš čovječje duše*, 2nd ed. (The immortality of the human soul, Ragusa 1925); *Lijek duševnim bolima* (Medicine for spiritual pains, Split 1929); *Ius Kristi u svijetlu trijeze i netrijeze kritike* (Jesus Christ in the light of sound and unsound criticism, ibid. 1933); *Etični sistem sv. Augustina* (The ethical system of St Augustine, Belgrade 1934). Besides his priestly apostolate as confessor, preacher, and lecturer, T. through his writings succeeded in offering a new vision of ideas and made a strong contribution to the development of Croatian theology in the first decades of the 20th century.
