TEOFILO DE ANGELIS, blessed. — Celestine monk, abbot of the hermitage of S. Spirito della Maiella, born in Naples on 2 October 1592, died on 18 February 1663.
At the age of 18 (15 May 1611), he entered the Celestines in Naples and, having received priestly ordination on 18 December 1616, obtained permission to be assigned to the solitude of Monte Maiella, where he might imitate the life of the founder, s. Pietro Celestino. He was exceedingly devoted to the Most Holy Trinity, a strict observer of poverty, distinguished in humility and patience, a worker of miracles, and a liberator of the possessed. With extreme reluctance he accepted the dignity of prior of Lanciano (1641) and of abbot (1642) of S. Spirito della Maiella.
