THEOPHILUS DE ANGELIS, Blessed. — Celestine monk, abbot of the hermitage of St. Spirit of the Maiella, b. Naples 2 Oct. 1592, d. 18 Feb. 1663.
At the age of 18 (15 May 1611) he entered the Celestines in Naples and, having received priestly ordination on 18 Dec. 1616, obtained to be sent to the solitude of Monte Maiella to imitate the life of the founder, St. Peter Celestine. He was most devoted to the Most Holy Trinity, a strict observer of poverty, outstanding in humility and patience, a worker of miracles, and a liberator of the possessed. With extreme reluctance he accepted the dignity of prior of Lanciano (1641) and abbot (1642) of St. Spirit of the Maiella.
