TERZAGO, NICOLA. - Moral theologian and mystic, b. in Rome in 1679. Learned and pious, in 1721 he was appointed titular Bishop of Samaria and auxiliary of Ostia and Velletri, and in January 1724 Bishop of Narni, where he served until 29 August 1761, greatly benefiting that church.
TERZAGO is to be remembered especially as a moral theologian and mystic.
Publications: *Istruzione pratica sopra la fedele amministrazione del sacramento della Penitenza* (Rome 1753, 1763, 1769, 1823; Venice 1770, 1824; Rome-Venice 1817); *Theologia historico-mystica adversus veteres et novos pseudo-mysticos* (Venice 1764), a very rare work still frequently cited by theologians of mysticism and regarded as the best history and refutation of spiritual errors. It was abridged by Mons. Chaillot: *Principes de théologie mystique* (Paris 1866); and by Cardinal Casimiro Gennari: *Del falso misticismo* (2nd ed., Rome 1907). TERZAGO’s name, however, is omitted.
