UGHELLI, FERDINANDO. — Scholar, born in Florence on 21 March 1594, died in Rome on 19 May 1670.
Having embarked upon literary studies, he entered the Congregation of St Bernard of the Cistercian Order and later became abbot of the monastery of SS. Vincenzo ed Anastasio alle Acque Salvie, where he was buried. To him we owe the first documented history of the dioceses of Italy, known under the title Italia sacra (v.); he also left Cardinalium elogia of the Cistercian Order (Florence 1624), as well as other works on the Order itself; genealogical information concerning the Roman Capizucchi family (Rome 1653); additions to the Vitae of Cia- conio in the 1650 edition, and other minor works.
