Sacratissimo uti culmine
Bull on the Sabbatine Privilege
John, Bishop, servant of the servants of God, to all and each of the Christ-faithful, both present and future, who shall inspect these present letters, greeting and apostolic benediction.
1 As in the most sacred height of Paradise the melody of angels is found so sweet and pleasant, in the modulation of vision, while Jesus is beheld united to the paternal Godhead, saying: Lord, I and the Father are one, and he that seeth me seeth also my Father, and the choir of angels ceases not to say: Holy, Holy, Holy; so the Synod ceases not to pour forth praises to the most high Virgin, saying: Virgin, Virgin, Virgin, be thou our mirror and likewise our example. For she is endowed with the gift of graces, as the holy Church sings: Full of grace and Mother of mercy. Thus that mountain is accounted of the Carmelite Order in exalting it with songs, and commending this Mother of graces and saying: Hail, Queen, Mother of mercy and our hope.
2 Thus to me kneeling in supplication the Virgin appeared as a Carmelite, speaking the following words: O John, O John, vicar of my beloved Son, as I shall snatch thee from thy adversary, I make thee Pope as a solemn gift, Vicar, my supplications aiding, asking from my most sweet Son, which I have graciously obtained, so thou shouldest grant grace and ample confirmation to my holy and devout Order of Carmelites, begun through Elias and Eliseus on Mount Carmel. Let each one making profession observe the Rule ordained by my servant Albert, patriarch, and hold it inviolate, and approved by my beloved son Innocent, that thou as the true Vicar of my Son shouldest assent on earth, as my Son has established and ordained in heaven; whosoever shall persevere in this observance in obedience, poverty and chastity, or whosoever shall enter this holy Order, shall be saved; and if others, for the sake of devotion, shall enter this holy Religion, bearing the sign of the holy Habit, calling themselves Confratres and Consorores of my aforesaid Order, let them be freed and absolved from a third part of their sins, from the day on which they shall have entered the aforesaid Order, promising chastity if she be a widow: keeping the faith of virginity if she be a virgin; if she be married, maintaining the inviolate preservation of matrimony, as the holy mother Church commands. The professed Brothers of the said Order shall be released from punishment and guilt, and on the day when they depart from this world, they shall hasten purgatory with accelerated step, I as Mother shall graciously descend on Saturday after their death, and as many as I shall find in purgatory I shall free, and shall lead them to the holy Mountain of eternal life. But let those Confratres and Consorores be bound to say the Canonical Hours, as shall be needful, according to the Rule given by Albert; those who are ignorant thereof should lead a fasting life on the days which the holy Church commands, unless perchance they be hindered by necessity; on Wednesday and Saturday they should abstain from flesh, except on the Nativity of my Son. And with this said, this holy Vision vanished. Having therefore accepted this holy Indulgence, I strengthen and confirm it on earth, as, through the merits of the Virgin Mother, Jesus Christ has graciously granted it in heaven. Let no man whatsoever be permitted to infringe this page of our Indulgence, or statute, and ordinance, or to dare to act contrary to it with rash presumption. If anyone, however, shall presume to attempt this, let him know that he shall incur the indignation of Almighty God, and of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul.

» Istam ergo sanctam Indulgentiam accepto, roboro et in terris confirmo, sicut, propter mérita Virginis Matris, gratiose Jesus-Ghristus concessit in cœlis. i Nulli ergo omnino hominum liceat hanc paginam f nostrae Indulgentise, seu statuli, et ordinationis irritare, vei ei ausu temerario contraire.
