ACCIAIUOLI, ZANOBI. — Prefect of the Vatican Library, born in Florence on 25 May 1461, died in Rome in 1519 or 1520. Returning to Florence at the age of 16, after the exile endured by his entire family from 1464 to 1478, he had as teachers, and later as friends, the most illustrious men of his time, among them especially Poliziano and Marsilio Ficino. He took the Dominican habit on 8 December 1495 in the convent of S. Marco and devoted himself to ecclesiastical studies. In 1518 he was appointed by Leo X prefect of the Vatican Library and was entrusted with compiling a new inventory of the library. He also prepared an index for the secret archives kept in Castel S. Angelo. He wrote numerous works in Latin and also translated many works from Greek. He was buried in S. Maria sopra Minerva.
