ACCIAIUOLI, FILIPPO. - Cardinal, b. in Rome on 12 March 1700, d. in Ancona in July 1766. In 1724 he was appointed vice-legate at Ravenna and remained in that office for four years. In 1744 he was elected apostolic nuncio in Switzerland and then at the court of Portugal, where he strove with commitment, but in vain, to save the Jesuits. On 24 Sept. 1759 he was created by Clement
XIII cardinal of the title of S. Maria degli Angeli. Having returned to Italy in 1760, he was elected three years later bishop of Ancona. He was buried in the cathedral of that city.
