ACCIAIUOLI, FILIPPO. — Cardinal, born in Rome on 12 March 1700, died at Ancona in July 1766. In 1724 he was appointed vice-legate at Ravenna and remained in that position for four years. In 1744 he was elected Apostolic Nuncio to Switzerland and then to the court of Portugal, where he strenuously, though unsuccessfully, fought to save the Jesuits. On 24 September 1759 he was created a cardinal by Clement XIII with the title of S. Maria degli Angeli. Returning to Italy in 1760, he was elected Bishop of Ancona three years later. He was buried in the cathedral of that city.
