AGOSTINI, GARGANO da SIENA. — Master of theology, regent of studies in his homeland (1488–91), and commissary general of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Italy. He died in Siena on 19 December 1523.
Of his theological work there remain some Commentarii in Philosophium and Theologium (manuscripts in Siena and Florence), and the De Autoritate Protectoris Ordinis, in two books (1507), with which A. took action against the friars’ frequent and improper recourse to the cardinal protector, and referred to earlier papal documents (of Gregory XI and Sixtus IV), the latest of which was Julius II’s letter “Acquam et consom” of 1505 to the minister general Egidio Delfini.
