ALBERGONI, ELEUTERIO. - Theologian and preacher of the Conventual Minorites, born in Milan in 1560, died in Montemarano in 1635.
Of great theological and biblical erudition, he taught at the Studio of Perugia at the age of 22, then philosophy in Bologna and theology in Milan. Provincial of Lombardy, he served in Milan as penitentiary of the Cathedral and Consultor of the Holy Office. A famous preacher throughout Italy, he was created Bishop of Montemarano in the Neapolitan territories by Paul V (Nov. 14, 1611). He wrote many theological works (his Resolutiones doctrinae scoticae, Padua 1593, Lyon 1643, are noteworthy), sacred orations for Advent, Lent, on the Psalms, Sabbath Sermons on the Excellencies of the Blessed Virgin (ibid. 1631), and on the Forty Hours; he also wrote on biblical exegesis (such as the Concordance on the Gospels read during the 5 Sundays of Lent with the Canticle of the Blessed Virgin, Lessons on the Magnificat concorded with the Gospels), and various spiritual works.
