ALBERGONI, ELEUTERIO. - Theologian and preacher of the Conventual Friars Minor, b. in Milan in 1560, d. at Montemarano in 1635.

Of great theological and biblical erudition, he taught at the Studium of Perugia at the age of 22, then philosophy at Bologna and theology at Milan. Provincial of Lombardy, he was in Milan penitentiary of the Cathedral and Consultor of the Holy Office. A famous preacher throughout Italy, he was created by Paul V bishop of Montemarano in the Kingdom of Naples (14 Nov. 1611). He wrote many works of theology (his Resolutiones doctrinae scoticae, Padua 1593, Lyon 1643, are esteemed), sacred orations for the Avvento, Quaresima, on the Salmi, Prediche sabbatine sulle eccellenze della B. Vergine (ibid. 1631), on the Forty Hours; he also wrote on biblical exegesis (such as the Concordanza sugli Evangelii correnti nelle 5 domeniche di Quaresima con Cautico della B. Vergine, Lezioni sopra il Magnificat concordate con gli Evangelii), and various spiritual works.
