AGOSTINO di ROMA: v. FAVARONI AGOSTINO. AGOSTINO di SANTA MARIA. - French Carmelite tertiary, missionary, in the world G. P. Bouteloup, b. in Paris on 31 May 1820, d. at Magnumey on 21 May 1882. A priest in 1843, he entered (1847) the Society of Foreign Missions, and was a missionary in Mysore (eastern India) until 1871, the year in which he was attached to the missions of Verapoly as a Carmelite tertiary, and for many years taught Sanskrit, Tamil and English in the seminaries of the indigenous Carmelite Tertiaries. He died as rector of the seminary of those Tertiaries, after having published many works of every kind in the Malayalam language, or translations into that language, for the use of the indigenous people and students.
