AICHER, Ottone. – Benedictine of the Bavarian abbey of St. Veit, born at an unspecified place in 1628, died at Salzburg in 1705. In Germany, he brought honour to scholarly studies, as did his confreres in France and Belgium in the same century. He devoted himself to history, with a preference for Roman history, but did not disdain to concern himself also with cosmography, epigraphy, and Latin and Greek literature (Cicero, T. Livy, Tacitus, etc., Aristotle). He also took pleasure in poetry.
Among his works we may recall: *Epitome historiae universalis* (Salzburg 1689); *Infantia et adulescentia Romae* (ibid. 1693); *Iuventus et maturitas Romae* (Würzburg 1700).
