AICHER, OTTONE. – Benedictine of the Bavarian abbey of St. Veit, born in an unspecified place in 1628, died at Salzburg in 1705. In Germany, he brought honor to erudite studies, as did his confrères in France and Belgium during the same century. He turned to history, with a preference for Roman history, but did not disdain to occupy himself also with cosmography, epigraphy, and Latin and Greek literature (Cicero, T. Livy, Tacitus, etc., Aristotle). He also took pleasure in poetry. Among his works we recall: Epitome historiae universalis (Salzburg 1689); Infantia et adolescentia Romae (there 1693); Iuventus et maturitas Romae (Würzburg 1700).
