ASMARA. - Residence of the apostolic vicar of Eritrea (v. ERITREA, vicariato apostolico di) and of the ordinary for Catholics of the Ethiopian rite since 1930. The city has 25,500 inhabitants; there is a fine Latin cathedral of recent construction and a Catholic church of the Ethiopian rite.
