ASMARA. – Seat of the Apostolic Vicar of Eritrea (v. ERITREA, Apostolic Vicariate of) and of the ordinary for Ethiopian-rite Catholics since 1930. The city has 25,500 inhabitants; it boasts a fine recently built Latin cathedral and an Ethiopian-rite Catholic church.
