ASTORRI, PIER ENRICO. – Sculptor, born in Paris on 23 July 1882, died on 30 May 1926. He studied in Piacenza and Milan. After winning the competition for the statue Piemonte on the Altar of the Fatherland in 1917, he moved to Rome, where he executed the monument to Pio X in St Peter’s in the Vatican (1917), based on a design by the architect Di Fausto. Monuments to the Fallen and to the victory of the First World War are among his works.
