ATERRADO, DIOCESI DI

Aterrado, Diocese of. — In the State of Minas
Gerais (Brazil), erected on 8 July 1918 with 16 parishes
from the archdiocese of Marianna and 2 from the diocese
of Uberabá, suffragan to Marianna, and from 10 Feb.
1924 to Belo Horizonte. The cathedral is dedicated to
Our Lady of Light. Since 29 Sept. 1933 the patron of the
diocese has been St Raphael. The Catholic population is
245,000 out of 280,000; there are 32 parishes, 25 diocesan
priests and 13 religious priests. Area: 35,000 sq km.
