ATERRADO, Diocese of. - In the State of Minas Gerais (Brazil), erected on 8 July 1918 with 16 parishes of the archdiocese of Mariana and 2 of the diocese of Uberaba, suffragan of Mariana, then from 1 Feb. 1924 of Belo Horizonte. The cathedral is dedicated to N. S. da Luz. Since 29 Sept. 1933 the patron of the diocese has been St. Raphael. The Catholic inhabitants number 245,000 out of 280,000; the parishes, 32; the diocesan priests 25 and the regulars 13. Area: 35,000 sq km.
