Aterrado, Diocese of

ATERRADO, DIOCESI di. — In the State of Minas Geraes (Brazil), erected on 8 July 1918 with 16 parishes from the archdiocese of Marianna and 2 from the diocese of Uberabá, suffragan of Marianna, and therefore, from 1 February 1924, of Bello Horizonte. The cathedral is dedicated to N. S. da Luz. Since 29 September 1933, the patron of the diocese has been St. Raphael. The Catholic inhabitants number 245,000 out of 280,000; there are 32 parishes, 25 diocesan priests, and 13 religious priests. Area: 35,000 sq km.
