BACH Y TARGARONA, PEDRO. - Catalan Oratorian, b. 1 May 1796 at San Lorenzo de los Munts (Barcelona), d. at Vich on 6 Jan. 1866.
He pursued higher studies at the University of Cervera, took a degree in theology at the University of Majorca (1819), and entered the Oratory of St. Philip Neri at Vich; but after its suppression (1835) he took refuge in Perpignan, then in Nice, and finally in Rome. Having returned to Vich in 1844, he re-established the Congregation of the Oratory, of which he became superior in 1854. He also founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Immaculate Conception, a college for poor students, and a home for sick priests.
He translated from Italian the Directório Místico para los Confesores by Fr. Bernardino da Castelveterre (Vich 1847), and composed in Catalan and Spanish the Mirall dorat de l'anima, ó sia instrucción practica per arreglar la vida vivrer santament, (s. l. s. d.).
