BELLEMERA (AEGIDIUS DE BELLAMERA, or de BELLEMERA), EGIDIO de. - Italian decretalist, d. about 1392. During the great Western Schism he followed the party of the antipope Clement VII. According to his own account (Cap. Si in laici, Decret. 38), he was promoted to the doctorate by Simone de Brossano, who was later elected cardinal. About 1374 he was appointed by Gregorio XI «auditor litterarum contradictarum» and subsequently regent of the Apostolic Chancery.
In this office he composed the rules of the said Chancery (Regulae cancellariae apostolicae, ed. Otthental, p. 900). As auditor of the Roman Rota he published a collection of the decisions of this pontifical tribunal for the years 1374–78, drawing them «ex consiliis dominorum Sacri Palatii auditorum» and arranging them under appropriate headings (Lione 1556).
Appointed bishop of Lavaur in 1383, he was transferred in 1391 to the see of Le Puy and then, in 1392, by the antipope Clement VII to that of Avignone.
He was the author of a Remissorius seu Commentaria in decretum Gratiani (Lione 1550); of Praelectiones in libros decretalium partis VI (ibid. 1543–49); of a Commentary on the Clementines (Venezia 1587), of other commentaries, and of various particular treatises, almost all on the Clementines.
Of his practical activity, in addition to the aforementioned collection of Rotal Decisiones, there remains his collection of Consilia in 4 vols. (Lione 1521; Venezia 1579).
