BORGHI, GIUSEPPE. - Man of letters and teacher of rhetoric, b. at Bibbiena on 4 May 1790, d. at Rome on 30 May 1847. A priest, he was later under-librarian at the Riccardiana in Florence and there belonged to the Vieusseux Circle.

He wrote verses, commentaries on Dante and Petrarch, and a work, unfinished and somewhat tedious, on Italian History from the first year of the Christian era to 1840. Appreciated, on the other hand, was his translation of the Odes of Pindar, published in fact in 1824 and revised in 1827, and for which he earned the prize of the Accademia della Crusca. He also wrote 24 Sacred Hymns, which celebrate the Trinity, the virtues and the Eucharist.
