GIUSEPPE BORGHI. — Scholar and rhetoric master, born in Bibbiena on 4 May 1790, died in Rome on 30 May 1847. A priest, he later became sub-librarian at the Riccardiana Library in Florence and belonged there to the Vieusseux Circle.
He wrote verse, commentaries on Dante and Petrarch, and an unfinished and somewhat tedious work on Italian History from the first year of the Christian era to 1840. More appreciated, however, was his translation of Pindar’s Odes, published in full in 1824 and revised in 1827, for which he earned the prize of the Accademia della Crusca. He also composed 24 Sacred Hymns, celebrating the Trinity, the virtues, and the Eucharist.
