BOSSIO (BOSSI), GIOVANNI ANGELO. - Barnabite of Milan, theologian and jurist, General of his Order, born in Milan in 1590, died in Rome on 27 Jan. 1665. He was a confidant of Ferdinando II, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and of Giuliano de' Medici, Archbishop of Pisa: he distinguished himself by religious piety and learning. He published various works, highly useful both for ecclesiastical and civil jurisprudence, concerning marriage, written with clarity and concise substance. He left: De matrimonii contractu (Venice 1643); Moralia varia (3 vols., Lyons 1649); the third part of these Moralia varia, namely the treatise De conscientia scrupolosa, printed separately, was placed on the Index (decree of 4 Dec. 1674), «donec corrigatur».
