BRANCHEREAU, LOUIS. - French priest, b. at S. Pierre di Montlimart (Vendée) on 21 Dec. 1819, d. at Issy on 23 Dec. 1913. He entered S. Sulpizio in 1841, taught philosophy at the seminary of Clermont, and in 1850 published the *Praelectiones philosophiae* in 9 small volumes, openly professing ontologism (cf. J. Kletgen). Of ontologism, in *La Civiltà Cattolica*, 6th series, XI [1867, III], pp. 574-79). Superior of the seminaries of Nantes (1854) and Orléans (1870), he was a friend of Msgr. Dupanloup, of whom he was the universal heir. He also published: *Politese et convenancee ecclésiastiques* (Paris 1872, Italian ed., Turin 1916); *Vie de M. Hamon* (2nd ed., Paris 1877); *Méditations à l'usage des élèves des grands séminaires* (4 vols., ibid. 1890, Italian ed. Brescia 1937); *La vocation sacerdotale* (Paris 1896); *Le journal intime de Mgr Dupanloup* (ibid. 1903).
