BUCCHI, GEREMIA. — Franciscan theologian and biblical scholar, born in Udine in the first half of the sixteenth century, died at Ronciglione (Rome) on 14 November 1587. A Master of Theology, he served as regent in Siena (1565) and several times as provincial of Tuscany (1573–81); as envoy of Francesco I of Tuscany to Emperor Maximilian of Austria, he conducted a broad campaign against the Lutherans in Prague.
His most notable works include: Expos. in Psalmos (Florence 1572); In Orat. Ier. proph., et in Cant. Zachariae (ibid. 1573). He published a new edition of the Liber Confirmationis by Fra Bartolomeo di Rinonico (q.v., d. 1401), and prepared the first edition of the latter’s De vita et laudibus B. Virginis, illustrated with six engravings (posthumous, Venice 1596).
