BURONZO DEL SIGNORE, CARLO LUIGI. - Archbishop of Turin, b. at Vercelli on 23 Oct. 1731, d. there on 22 Oct. 1806. He was vicar general at Vercelli, then became bishop of Acqui (1784), and of Novara (1791), and archbishop of Turin (1797). He was a friend of Charles Emmanuel IV, but upon the latter's fall (Dec. 1798), B. bowed with excessive and perhaps unfelt enthusiasm to the new institutions. In 1802 he went to Paris to prevent the number of bishoprics from being too greatly reduced. Since Napoleon did not hold him in good esteem because of his attachment to the king, he asked and obtained permission to renounce his bishopric and retired to Vercelli (1805), where he died.

He was the first to publish the works of Atto, bishop of Vercelli: Attonis sanctae Vercellorum ecclesiae episcopi (924) opera ad autographi Vercellensis fidem nunc primum exacta praefatione et commentariis illustrata a d. C. B. del S. (Vercelli 1768, reproduced in PL 134, 27-834), dedicated to Prince Victor Amadeus.
