GAZOTTI (Casotti), Agostino, Beato. - Dominican bishop and confessor, b. at Traù (Dalmatia) ca. 1260, d. at Lucera (Apulia) on 3 Aug. 1323. A religious, from 1278 he fought energetically against heresy in Bosnia and Hungary.

Bishop of Zagreb from 1303 to 1322, he devoted himself to the reform of the clergy, to the defense of the rights of the Church and to the pacification of souls divided by opposing factions. In 1322 he was transferred to the diocese of Lucera. Here he labored greatly for the conversion of the Saracens.

A model of apostolic zeal and of every virtue, he was venerated as a saint immediately after his death. His cult, approved by Innocent XII (17 July 1700), was extended by Clement XI to Croatia, Dalmatia and the diocese of Lucera (1702). Feast on 3 Aug.
