CESLAO of POLAND (of SILESIA), blessed. - Dominican, born in 1180 at Gross-Stein in Upper Silesia, died at Breslavia on 15 July 1242. Late accounts call him a companion, while Bzovio makes him a brother, of St. Giacinto, together with whom he is said to have received the habit of the Preachers from St. Domenico in Rome, and subsequently to have founded the convent of Friesach (Carinthia). After residing at Cracovia, C. established the convent of St. Adalberto at Breslavia. As prior of Breslavia and as provincial of Poland, he devoted himself to the Christianization of Silesia. The deliverance of the castle of Breslavia during the Mongol siege in 1241 is attributed to his prayers. His relics are in St. Adalberto. His cult was approved by Clemente XI in 1712. Feast in the Dominican Order on 17 July, in the archdiocese of Breslavia on 20 July.
