He worked in the style of the school of Fontainebleau and was influenced by Italian mannerists, such as Parmigianino; he made designs for tapestries in the cathedrals of Sens and Langres. His more famous son, JEAN C. the YOUNGER, painter, sculptor, engraver, born in Sens around 1522, died in Paris around 1594, was the author of a book on anatomy called De portraicture, which was first published in 1560. He is recorded in Paris from 1538. The painting of the Last Judgment in the Louvre shows him under the influence of Raphael and the later works of Michelangelo. In 1585 he designed stained glass windows for the church of St-Gervais in Paris.
