COUSIN, JEAN, the Elder. – French painter, woodcut artist, and sculptor: b. ca. 1490 at Sens (?), d. ca. 1561 in Paris. From 1538 he is recorded in Paris.
More famous was his son, JEAN COUSIN the Younger, painter, sculptor, and engraver, b. at Sens ca. 1522, d. ca. 1594 in Paris, author of a book on anatomy entitled De porraiciture, first published in 1560. He is recorded in Paris from 1538. The painting of the Last Judgment in the Louvre shows him under the influence of Raphael and the later works of Michelangelo. In 1585 he designed stained glass for the church of St-Gervais in Paris.
