DELICIEUX, BERNARD. - Franciscan, b. around the middle of the 13th century at Montpellier, d. in 1320 at Toulouse. He entered the Order in 1284; he was a lector in the convent of Carcassonne (1296). He waged frequent struggles against the abuses of the Inquisition of Carcassonne and Albi, especially over the trials of 1297 and 1300. He appeared twice (1301 and 1302) before Philip the Fair to obtain better inquisitorial justice, but met with little success. For having taken part in the so-called treason of Carcassonne, which sought to hand the city over to Ferdinand of Majorca, he was imprisoned in Paris and then released.

Of Joachimite and Spiritual ideas, he defended them before John XXII; for this and for other accusations, among them that of having poisoned Benedict XI, he was again imprisoned and tried, and died in prison.
