DELFINA of Glandèves, Blessed. — Franciscan tertiary, wife of St. Eleazarius, Count of Ariano (q.v.). Born in Puimichel, Provence, in 1284 to the de Glandèves family. Orphaned at age seven, she was educated by her aunt Cecilia Puget, Abbess of Sorbs. At the urging of Charles II of Sicily, she reluctantly married Eleazarius, Count of Ariano (q.v.), in the Kingdom of Naples, though she persuaded him to preserve her virginity. After Eleazarius died in 1323, she sold her vast estates in Provence and Naples, distributing the proceeds to the poor and to various pious works. She was often summoned to court by Queens Sancia of Naples and Eleanor of Palermo. She spent much of her time in retirement at Cabrieres and Apt in Provence, and died in the latter city on 26 November 1358. Innocent XII granted her a Mass and Office; her feast is on 26 November.
