DELFINA of Glandèves, Blessed. - Franciscan tertiary, wife of St. Elzear, Count of Ariano (q.v.). Born at Puimichel in Provence in 1284 to the de Glandèves family. Orphaned at the age of seven, she was educated by her aunt Cecilia Puget, Abbess of Sorbs. Desirous of consecrating herself to God, she reluctantly consented to marry Elzear of Ariano, whom she induced to preserve her virginity. After Elzear’s death in 1323, she sold her vast estates in Provence and the Kingdom of Naples and distributed the proceeds to the poor and to various pious works. She was often summoned to court by Queen Sancia of Naples and Queen Eleonora of Palermo. She spent much of her time in retirement at Cabrières and Apt in Provence, and died at the latter place on 26 November 1358. Innocent XII granted her a Mass and Office; her feast is kept on 26 November.
