DELPHINA DE GLANDÈVES, Blessed. - Franciscan tertiary, wife of St. Elzéar, count of Ariano (v.). Born at Puimichel in Provence in 1284 to the de Glandèves family. Left an orphan at the age of 7, she was educated by her aunt Cecilia Puget, abbess of Sorbs. At the desire of Charles II of Sicily, she married, albeit reluctantly, Elzéar, count of Ariano (v.), in the Kingdom of Naples, whom she persuaded to preserve her virginity. When Elzéar died in 1323, she sold her vast estates in Provence and the Neapolitan territory, and gave the proceeds to the poor and to various pious works. She was often summoned to court by the queens Sancia of Naples and Eleanor of Palermo. She resided for a longer time at Cabrières and at Apt in Provence, leading a retired life, and in the latter city she died on 26 Nov. 1358. Innocent XII granted her the Mass and Office; her feast is on 26 Nov.
