DODANIM. - A Greek people, mentioned in the ethnological list of Gen. 10:4 (Masoretes, Peshitta, Onkelos, Vulgate) as the fourth son of Javan (Ionians) of the lineage of Japheth (Gen. 10:2), dwelling in Dodona, between Illyria and Macedonia.
With less probability, some have sought to identify them with the Dardanini, descendants of the Dardanians on the Hellespont (= Dardanelles), of the lineage of Gomer (Gen. 2:5). The Samaritan text and the Septuagint read Rodanim, referring to the inhabitants of the island of Rhodes rather than the Rethenu, inhabitants of northern Syria.
