DODANIM. – A Greek people, mentioned in the ethnological list of Gen. 10:4 (Masoretic Text, Pēšittā, 'Onkelōs, Vulgate) as the fourth son of Iavan (Ionians) of the stock of Iapheth (Gen. 10:2), dwelling in Dodona, between Illyria and Macedonia.
With less probability, an allusion to the Dardanim has been seen here, namely, to the Dardanids on the Hellespont (= Dardanelles), of the stock of Gomer (Gen. 2:5). The Samaritan text and the Septuagint read Rodanim, referring rather to the inhabitants of the island of Rhodes than to the Rethenu, inhabitants of northern Syria.
