Dodanim

DODANIM. - A Greek people, mentioned in the ethnological list of Gen. 10:4 (Masoretes, Peshitta, 'Onkelos, Vulgate) as the fourth son of Javan (Ionians) of the stock of Japheth (Gen. 10:2), dwelling in Dodona, between Illyria and Macedonia.

With less probability, some have wished to see in them the Dardanim, from the Dardanids on the Hellespont (= the Dardanelles), of the stock of Gomer (Gen. 2:5). The Samaritan text and the Septuagint read Rodanim, having in view the inhabitants of the island of Rhodes, rather than the Rethenu, inhabitants of northern Syria.
