DOMENICO da PESCIA. — By his secular name Domenico Buonvicini, Dominican, known for his faith in the supernatural mission of Savonarola and for his generous fidelity to him even unto death (23 May 1498).
We know nothing about the birth and early education of Buonvicini. He professed at Bologna; and in 1493 he was incorporated into the convent of S. Marco in Florence. He was prior at S. Domenico in Fiesole. In Florence he assisted Savonarola in the education of children and sometimes substituted for him in the pulpit. For his master he had, with enthusiasm not devoid of imprudence, accepted the ordeal by fire, which then failed (7 Apr. 1498). He serenely mounted the scaffold together with Savonarola and Fra Silvestro Maruffi, after having commended the works of the father and master to the religious of Fiesole.
