DOMENICO da PESCIA. - In the world Domenico Buonvicini, a Dominican, known for his faith in Savonarola’s supernatural mission and for his generous fidelity to him until death (23 May 1498).
We know nothing of Buonvicini’s birth and early education. He professed at Bologna; and in 1493 he was incorporated into the convent of S. Marco in Florence. He was prior at S. Domenico in Fiesole. In Florence he assisted Savonarola in the education of children and at times also replaced him in the pulpit. For his master he had enthusiastically, though not without imprudence, accepted the ordeal by fire, which subsequently failed (7 Apr. 1498). He serenely mounted the scaffold together with Savonarola and fra Silvestro Maruffi, after commending the works of the father and master to the religious of Fiesole.
