**EGIDIUS** of Lessines. - Dominican master and one of the first supporters of St. Thomas, born in Lessines (Belgium) around 1230; died around 1304. In the condemnation of Averroism in 1270, he foresaw the threat looming over Thomist doctrine and wrote to Albert the Great, who replied with the **De XV problematibus** (ed. Mandonnet, in **Siger de Brabant**, II, 2nd ed., Louvain 1911).
**He wrote:** *De usuris*, included among the opuscula of St. Thomas, *Tractatus de praecipuis*, *De crepusculis*, *De concordia temporum*. His Thomism is linked to the *De unitate formae* written in 1278 against R. Kilwardby, who had renewed from his seat at Canterbury the Parisian condemnations of 1277 (ed. M. D. Wulf, [Les philosophes belges, 1], Louvain 1901).
