EHSES, STEFAN

EHSES, STEFAN. – Ecclesiastical historian, born in Zeltingen on the Moea on 9 December 1855, died in Rome on 19 January 1926. He attended the University of Würzburg and, after being ordained a priest in 1885, came to Rome to conduct research in the Vatican Archives. On returning to his homeland, he was parish priest at Ehrenbreitstein and Coblenz.

Returning to Rome, he became secretary of the Roman institute of the Görresgesellschaft.

He edited the Nuntiaturberichte aus Deutschland 1585-1590 (2 vols., Paderborn 1895-99) and the Concilii Tridentini Actorum in the series Concilium Tridentinum (Societas Görresiana; vols. IV-IX, Freiburg im Br. 1904-24). Another valuable work is the Römische Dokumente zur Geschichte der Ehescheidung Heinrichs VIII (Paderborn 1893). He was a regular contributor to the Römische Quartalschrift and the Historisches Jahrbuch.
