ELINANDO. — A Cistercian, born c. 1160 at Prongeroy (Oise), he became a monk c. 1185 at the Cistercian monastery of Prémontré; died after 1229. In the diocese of Beauvais he is venerated as a saint. Feast day: February 3.
Famous for a *Chronicon* (634–1204), which survives only in part, dependent on Sigebert of Gembloux but continued independently; it was one of the principal sources for Vincent of Beauvais and other chroniclers. Other works: 28 *Sermones*; *De cognitione sui*; *De bono regimine principis*, entirely compiled from the *Policraticus* of John of Salisbury; *De reparatione lapsi* with personal confessions. Of his poetic writings, only the *Vers de la mort* in Old French remains (cf. *PL* 212, 482–1084).
