ELINANDO. -

Cistercian, born ca. 1160 at Pronleroy (Oise), became a monk ca. 1185 among the Cistercians of Froidmont; died after 1229. In the diocese of Beauvais he is venerated as a saint. Feast on 3 February.

Famous for a Chronicon (634-1204), preserved only in part, dependent on Sigebert of Gembloux, but continued independently; it was one of the principal sources of Vincent of Beauvais and of other chroniclers; other writings: 28 Sermones; De cognitione sui; De bono regimine principis, entirely compiled from the Policraticus of John of Salisbury; De reparatione lapsi with personal confessions. Of his poetic writings there survives the Vers de la mort in Old French (cf. PL 212, 482-1084).
