ELINANDO. -
A Cistercian, born ca. 1160 at Pronleroy (Disc), he became a monk, ca. 1185, at the Cistercian monastery of Froidmont; died after 1229. In the diocese of Beauvais he is venerated as a saint. Feast on 3 February.
Famous for a Chronicon (634–1204), preserved only in part, dependent on Sigbert of Gembloux but continued independently; it was one of the principal sources of Vincenzo di Beauvais and other chroniclers; other writings: 28 Sermones; De cognitione sui; De bono regimine principio, compiled entirely from the Policraticus of Giovanni di Salisbury; De reparatione lapsi, with personal confessions. Of his poetic writings there remains Vers de la mort in Old French (cf. PL 212, 482–1084).
