ENTERTAINMENT ORGANIZATION
The Entertainment Organization (denomination adopted since 1946) comprises the Catholic Film Centers (C.C.C.), Theater (C.C.T.), and Radio (C.C.R.).
### I. THE CATHOLIC FILM CENTER
Established in 1936 by the will of Pius XI, who in the encyclical *Vigilanti cura* outlined the Church's thought and directives regarding cinema, the C.C.C. has had and maintains the task of informing Catholics about the moral value of films presented in Italy. For this purpose, a commission composed of ecclesiastical and lay experts operates under its direction, promptly issuing and disseminating such judgments. In addition to this fundamental activity, the C.C.C. strives to suggest ideas and inspiration to film industries for morally sound and constructive productions, and it does not fail to support the free initiative of producers, particularly concerning films of a religious nature, with technical collaboration as well.
Aware of the importance of this work in restoring and moralizing cinema at its source—namely, in its creative and production phases—the C.C.C. advocated for and promoted the establishment of a Catholic film company, which was founded in 1944 under the name Orbis. This company produced several action and documentary films (v. CINEMATOGRAFO). Orbis was also responsible for the first experimental realization of an extensive program of educational cinematography aimed at teaching Christian doctrine through film. This program of catechetical films is being implemented through the joint efforts of the C.C.C., which oversees the doctrinal and artistic aspects, and Orbis, which handles the technical execution and industrial distribution. Promoted by the C.C.C., the A.C.E.C. (Catholic Cinema Exhibitors Association) was established in May 1949 to organize and protect over 3,500 parish, oratory, college, or otherwise Church-affiliated cinema halls.
### II. THE CATHOLIC THEATER CENTER
Established in 1941, it has curated the staging or public reading of dramatic works of religious interest (*La leggenda di ognuno* by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, *S. Oliva* by a 16th-century author, *Il sacro esperimento* by Fritz Hochwälder, *L'annonce faite à Marie* by P. Claudel, and *The Passion According to St. John* in a theatrical adaptation by Guido Guarda and others).
It plans to establish a Theater Service to guide and oversee over 2,000 Catholic amateur dramatic groups.
### III. THE CATHOLIC RADIO CENTER
Established in 1940, its purpose is to increasingly sensitize Catholics in general and activists in particular to the various technical, legal, artistic, cultural, and organizational issues of broadcasting and to present programs of Christian inspiration on the National Radio (R.A.I.), as well as to produce special broadcasts for Radio Vaticana.
For R.A.I., the C.C.R. prepares news bulletins and special broadcasts on the occasion of important religious holidays.
At Radio Vaticana, it collaborates with special broadcasts, also overseeing their production through its own dramatic ensemble. Some of these broadcasts are dedicated to children.
Finally, the C.C.R. collaborates with the radio service of the Presidency of the Council for broadcasts directed abroad.
